Silk embroidered panel

A silk embroidered panel is a textile ground carrying a stitched image or pattern, read through both its face and reverse.

Silk embroidered panel · Orienda research record

Framing hides much of the evidence needed to read embroidery. A research record should document the object before mounting, including reverse, selvedge or cut edge, backing and any labels.

Pictorial subject is not enough to attribute a panel to Suzhou. Fibre, stitch practice, workshop history and provenance must support the claim.
