苏州 Sūzhōu
Suzhou
Suzhou is a Jiangnan city whose textile economy and workshop traditions are closely associated with silk weaving and Su embroidery.
Place names can carry several meanings: where fibre was raised, where cloth was woven, where embroidery was worked, where an object was sold, or the style it imitates. These fields need to be recorded separately.
The first fieldwork brief for Suzhou will document workshop role, material sourcing and production sequence instead of relying on a retail address as proof of origin.
